Sinus Infection Treatment

A sinus infection, also known as Sinusitis, occurs when the tissues that line the sinuses become inflamed or swollen. Bacteria and germs flourish in the area when your sinuses become blocked with fluid, which is what causes the infection. If you already have a sinus infection, treatment will be necessary from an otolaryngologist (that’s us!).

There are many symptoms that can arise from sinus infections – the most common complaint from sinus problems is pain around the sinuses, headache and fatigue. Other symptoms include, but are not limited to:

• Pain / pressure of the face
• Stuffy Nose
• Cough or Congestion
• Fever
• Fatigue

There are a few options for treatment of sinus infections and sinus problems, but it mostly depends on the type of sinus infection you have. If you have acute sinusitis (sinus infections), you might be prescribed a decongestant along with a steam vaporizer to help alleviate symptoms. Antibiotics might be recommended as well, depending on the severity of the infection. Chronic sinusitis follows a similar treatment, however oral steroids may be prescribed.
